SCA Hosting Annual Folk ‘n Fall Music Festival on October 1

The Schuylkill Canal Association presents the Folk ’N Fall Music Festival to celebrate the river, canal and its greenway on Saturday, October 1, 4 PM to 10 PM at St. Michael’s Park, Mont Clare, PA. A combination of music, kayak tours, kid’s games and the unique Frisbee game of KAN JAM sponsored by Sly Fox Brewery will entertain all who participate. Rain or shine.

This annual fundraiser is to support the stewardship of the Schuylkill Canal Park and Lock 60. The entire park has been left battered and with debris strewn all over the area that needs to be cleaned up after the recent Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee extreme weather events. Your support will go a long way in getting the park back to its pre-storm condition for all to enjoy, especially for those who enjoy paddling.

Speaking of paddling; join in with the guided canoe and kayak loop of the Schuylkill Canal and River starting at 2 PM. Bring your own boat and take part in the free, 2-hour paddle before the music festival starting and ending at Lock 60 in Mont Clare, PA.

Between 4 PM and 10 PM, the fun moves to St. Michael’s Park and Pavilion, adjacent to the Lock 60, where the sweet sounds of Tin Bird Choir, Dan Frantz, and local legend, Ted The Fiddler, will be heard. At 7 PM Echo takes the stage followed by upcoming performer, Casey Alvarez. A master jam session caps the evening’s festivities.

The Sly Fox Brewery will be coordinating the KAN JAM tournament, free to all willing participants (donations will be accepted for SCA.) This exciting 2 person team sport with a Frisbee and modified trash can is a cross between skeet ball and flying horseshoes. Signup starts at 4 PM and the tournament begins at 5 PM. More info on the game KAN JAM can be found at www.kanjam.com or www.slyfoxbeer.com .

Admission to the Folk ‘N Fall Music Festival at St. Michael’s Park, the end of Jacobs St, Mont Clare, is $12 at the gate or tickets can be purchased online at www.schuylkillcanal.org. Kids 12 and under are free.

This is an event for all ages where kids can enjoy games such as bean bag throw, ladder toss, arts and crafts and sack races. Food, beverages and Sly Fox brew will be available for purchase throughout the evening. Rain or shine.

For more information, to volunteer (we need you), or to sign up your KAN JAM team, contact SCA at 610-917-0021, info@schuylkillcanal.com or go to www.schuylkillcanal.org.

Unfortunately, the pre-festival loop paddle has been cancelled due to too many tree falls along the canal making it difficult to navigate and not enough volunteers to eliminate before October 1.
Also the ongoing issue of sewer spills upriver into the Schuylkill does not create a good environment to promote paddling. Hope to see you all at St. Michael's for a good time listening to great music.

The You Are Worth It Foundation is a grassroots homeless and in-need outreach group from Phoenixville, PA. Around Phoenixville recently asked Chris Brickhouse for some more information about the Foundation and how you can help: Tell us a little about You Are Worth It and how it got started: We are a homeless outreach organizations serving Phoenixville, Pottstown, Norristown, Center City and Kensington in Philly and constantly expanding. We were formed in early 2018 by Dina Rowan and I came on board last June. We have roughly 15 volunteers so far and would like to expand that to expand our reach. We take donated items directly to the people. We provide them with a hot meal and new or lightly used clothing and self-care products. We have long term goals of a mobile shower center, vocational training and assisting with housing in any way possible. What kind of items do you need? We take a wide array of items - individually packaged food, canned goods, ramen, protein bars, water, s
