NerdWallet recently compile a list of the top 20 cities on the rise in each state and Phoenixville placed 16th in Pennsylvania. From the study: To find the cities and communities that are growing the fastest and why, NerdWallet crunched the data to determine the “cities on the rise” in states across America. Our analysis factors in growth in the working-age population, employment and income from 2009 to 2012 to create a composite growth metric. Phoenixville Ranks as 12th Best Towns in Pennsylvania for Job Seekers

Consumer finance website NerdWallet recently conducted a study to determine the best cities and towns across the country to live in if you are a job seeker. Their methodology takes into account things like population growth, cost of living and employment rates and coming in at number twelve in Pennsylvania is none other than our own Phoenixville! Lancaster Farm Fresh Cooperative offering Community Supported Agriculture shares in Phoenixville

This season, Lancaster Farm Fresh Cooperative , a non-profit farmers co-op, is offering Community Supported Agriculture shares in Phoenixville at First United Methodist Church. About Lancaster Farm Fresh Cooperative (LFFC) LFFC is a non-profit organic farmers cooperative of 75+ small-scale, Certified Organic family farms in Lancaster County, PA. They focus on creating healthy, quality food from their highly maintained and enriched soils. Their CSA season begins in May and ends in October. Those interested should sign up by April 15th to receive the first share. Online sign ups are taken at their website, www.lancasterfarmfresh.com .

Historical Society Opening New Exhibit This Friday

The Historical Society of the Phoenixville Area will open a new exhibit on the "First Friday" of March (4th). Entitled "Behind the Wooden Door: Secret Societies in the Land of the Phoenix". The exhibit will include photos, documents, and artifacts related to organizations such as the Odd Fellows (IOOF), the Masons, and the Knights of the Golden Eagle which were active in the Phoenixville community over the years. The exhibit will run through May. The Historical Society is located at the corner of Main & Church Streets with entrance on the Church Street side. The office and museum are open Wednesdays and Fridays from 9AM to 3PM, and the first Sunday of every month between 1 and 4PM.

Additional Mosquito Spraying Planned for Tuesday, August 24th

Councilman Handwerk posted information about a second mosquito spraying planned for tomorrow, August 25th: The Chester County Health Department once again will be spraying for mosquitoes. "Weather permitting, the Chester County Health Department will apply a mosquito control treatment between 8:30 PM and 10:30 PM on the evening of Tuesday, August 24, 2010 in Phoenixville Borough and Schuylkill Township. The areas to be treated are: Phoenixville Borough - bordered by Washington Avenue to the North, Main Street to the West, Nutt Road to the South, and Second Avenue to the East. Schuylkill Township - bordered by Rossiter Avenue to the North, Biddle Lane to the South, South Second Avenue to the East and Valley Forge Road to the West. In the event of a weather delay, the application will be conducted on Wednesday, August 25, 2010"

Mosquito spraying Thursday in Phoenixville

From the Pottstown Mercury: The Chester County Health Department will apply a mosquito control treatment on the borough on Thursday evening, August 12, between 8:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. The areas to be treated will be bordered by Washington Avenue to the north, Nutt Road and Valley Forge Road to the west and south, Second Avenue to the east. In the event of a weather delay, the application will be conducted on Friday, August 13, 2010. On August 9, 2010 mosquito samples collected in this area by the Chester County Health Department West Nile Virus program staff tested positive for West Nile Virus. The treatment will be administered with truck mounted equipment to spray the target area of the borough. The equipment dispenses Permanone RTU, a permethrin insecticide product, at a rate of 1.5 ounces per acre. It is recommended that residents stay indoors and close windows during treatment and for approximately one hour after spraying is complete. Read the full article here .

On Wednesday, July 7th, the 10! Show on NBC 10 will be showcasing Bridge Street. The feature will highlight several stores in town as well as talk about next weekends BlobFest. The 10! Meadow Brook Golf Club Hosting Junior Golf Programs This Summer

This summer, Meadow Brook Golf Club will be offering Junior Golf programs for children ages 11-16. 2010 PHOENIXVILLE AREA JUNIOR GOLF PROGRAM Record snowfall this winter, but Spring is just around the corner. The program has gotten much smaller the last several years so we ask your help in encouraging new families to join. Registration forms can be downloaded from the http://meadowbrookgc.com website using the program tab on the home page. The form must be signed by a parent or guardian and then mailed. The clinics at Meadow Brook Golf Club and Fore Seasons Driving Range will be conducted by Mr. Harry Hammond and his staff. Please be sure to check the schedule for each week’s location. Play dates will be at Meadow Brook Golf Club. The 6 and 9 hole players are asked to pay a greens fee to the club. The 11-13 age fee is $3.00 each play day and the 14-16 year old fee is $6.00.
