Iron Hill Sending Summer Out In Style This Thursday And Friday

On Thursday, September 20, the second-to-last day of summer, Iron Hill Brewery & Restaurant (130 East Bridge Street, 610-983-9333) will bid the season a fond farewell with their Smokin’ Summer Send-Off. With a special menu of smoked foods and beers, evocative of classic summer barbecues, the event will take place from 5 p.m. until 10 p.m. and again on Friday, September 21.

“As we gear up for fall – with cooler weather, heartier foods and fuller-flavored beers,” says Head Brewer Tim Stumpf. “This menu features the richness of fall’s food and drink, as well as the best of the summer.”

Featured beers, available on a pay-as-you-go basis, will include: Rauchbier, a Bamburg, Germany-style amber lager made with beechwood-smoked malt for a distinct smoked character in both aroma and flavor; Rauchweizenbock, a Bamburg, Germany-style dark, strong wheat ale brewed with just a touch of smoked malt, adding complexity and depth to a subtly fruit-y and chocolate-y beer; Smokin’ Brunette, a sweet, lightly chocolate malt-tasting beer with subtle fruit and spice from Belgian yeast and moderate cherrywood smoke character; and Smokin’ Blonde, a Belgian-style blonde ale with biscuit-like character and a subtle sweet smoke flavor from the use of smoked malts.

Featured dishes, all created especially to pair with the smoked beers, will include: Sweet Corn Soup with bacon-corn relish and chile oil; House-Smoked Salmon and Cream Cheese Toasts with red onion, capers and baby arugula on whole grain bread; Beer-Braised Pork Belly with caramelized fennel, onions, roasted beet puree and braising jus; Chile-Dusted North Atlantic Salmon with drunken pinto beans and chorizo, pineapple salsa and chipotle-honey glaze; and Smoked Cream Cheese Tart, puff pastry with almond crumb topping and fresh berries. Dishes range in price from $4.50 to $22.95.
