Poll Question

Recent posts have gotten a lot of comments, which I think is great. However, as with most things on the internet, it causes folks to lose their minds from time to time. What starts off as a civil discussion quickly becomes heated and, thanks in large part to anonymity, things start to go south. With that in mind, I am proposing turning on a feature that would require you to log in before commenting. This does not remove the anonymity completely, you are free to sign up for a user name like Phoenixville123, but it will allow us to connect comments to users, making it easier to follow the arguments being made. It will also, hopefully, cause people to take a second to think about what they are posting which will, at least in theory, help to prevent the senseless name calling that ruin an otherwise valid argument.

Long story short, please take a moment to vote Poll will be left open until the 14th.

Thanks.

I've been kicking around online for 25 years now. Requiring user-ids is the minimum requirement for having a civil conversation.

The newspaper now requires ID's and that action effectively killed the off their blogs.

As the owner of this blog you have to ask yourself if you want a garden club with blooming pansies all the time or an open forum.

The decision is yours.

I agree with Anonymous. I have never seen "porkchop boy" on this blog and you have to take the good with the bad. Besides, I could take the name "porkchop boy 2" and what's the difference. Some comments are BS and some are legit. And by the way, some of the most ridiculous come from people posting their names, aka Karen (might as well be little ceaser).

How about freedom of speech??

I don't understand what the big deal is about having a user-ID. I've been typing in my name rather than staying anonymous mainly so I remember what I typed! You don't have to include your email address or a URL -- you can just write a name with one of the options below. But I suppose you can't make people do that -- seems like most would prefer to stay anonymous completely. I think that's annoying. Just my $0.02.

Google keeps eating my identies so I can't access them, but I can't change to a new one. As a result, I can't use Google Groups or PayPal which is also annoying.

I agree that asking people to register has killed The Phoenix comments. If we had a more civilized society in Phoenixville, it would be safer to post with a name. However, this town's PTB are ruthless with those they disagree with so the penalities far outway the advantages. Besides, after hanging out at this blog, you can pretty much figure out from the word choice/word order who is who.

Keep the posts anonymous and just shut a post's comments down if they get out of hand. It will get ugly outside of the blogs otherwise and there will be no place for differing opinions to be aired.

Please require user IDs.

Please keep it anonymous so when I write absurd comments I won't have to take the extra time to log in.

There's your answer JW, "Anonymous" 6:16pm says you should require ID's - lol!

Its unbelievable how simple people are.

I think requiring a sign in is a good idea.

You can log in using any name you choose. It does help those posting to follow the various threads and being accountable in this small way promotes civility. I don't see how that would inhibit an open forum.

I believe an ID of some sort should be required. Logging in doesn't take away anonymity - I could really care less who any of these folks are anyway - but at least I'll waste less time reading idoitic posts. And maybe that little extra step of logging in will keep the riff-raff out.

Personally I'd prefer fewer posts with more meaningful content than what we've seen over the past few weeks. I think the people with real, relevant opinions will continue to make comments. Those that don't like this idea are probably the ones who write inane, baseless, and insulting comments, and I'd rather not read them anyway.

This site is how I find out what's going on around town. If you require account sign-ups, I'm afraid many people will no longer post and then this site will be much less useful. I simply scan past the useless comments as eveyone else should. Using a registered account will NOT eliminate idiotic comments, just perhaps many comments that we all may find helpful.

Michael Weinstein / Owner of Charmingly Linda's attacks a business owner (Ellies) in Phoenixville:

" I was also wondering about the liability of a town employee giving out liquor to the public during a town sponsored event.

Anyway....I could have predicted the closing of businesses in the downtown. Thats why we left. No customers. March is our 2 year anniv. since moving our business out of the downtown. Best move we ever made. Heck, we are paying less rent on the main line and we have more customers. Customers with JOBS! All Barry could do when we left was bad mouth us. What a lovely town leader! Barry wont leave Phoenixville, He is the king there. King of loser town! What a claim! And his blog just proves his unprofessionalism!

I dont think the rumor was Elle was closing. I think it was Ellie SHOULD be closing. Just got mixed up in whisper down the lane. Its nice for a junk shop with outdated merchandise! I always feel good knowing she is in her sidewalk chair, talking on the phone, puffing away.

Phoenixville is just a drinking town. Barry knows it, hence his bar expansion plan. A bar on every corner, and then some.

Yes, the town is great for arts and beer. Yes, we will wait and see first fridays are crowded. People will flock for free music and beer. But day time retail is just not there. At all. So if you like having a business that does well with drunks, 1 friday per month, then Phoenixville is the place for you!

Happy to be out of Pville, Michael Weinstein @ Charmingly Lindas Quality Consignments. "

Local Non-Profit Spotlight: You Are Worth It Foundation

The You Are Worth It Foundation is a grassroots homeless and in-need outreach group from Phoenixville, PA. Around Phoenixville recently asked Chris Brickhouse for some more information about the Foundation and how you can help: Tell us a little about You Are Worth It and how it got started: We are a homeless outreach organizations serving Phoenixville, Pottstown, Norristown, Center City and Kensington in Philly and constantly expanding. We were formed in early 2018 by Dina Rowan and I came on board last June. We have roughly 15 volunteers so far and would like to expand that to expand our reach. We take donated items directly to the people. We provide them with a hot meal and new or lightly used clothing and self-care products. We have long term goals of a mobile shower center, vocational training and assisting with housing in any way possible. What kind of items do you need? We take a wide array of items - individually packaged food, canned goods, ramen, protein bars, water, s
