Committee Approves Second Avenue Closing for Library Expansion

At last night's Borough Council Community Development Committee meeting, the topic of discussion was the Phoenixville Public Library and the proposed expansion that will close off 2nd Ave. at Main Street. The committee voted unanimously to recommend that Council approve the closure.

Well, I think it's also the fact things have died down since the uproar over whether places were closing or not. As far as the library expansion goes, I am looking forward to it. I think it is necessary for the community.

I too am looking forward to the expansion. I think it will look great and make the library and Reeves Park an even better place to visit.

It seems to me that the homeowners on 2nd St. would welcome this change. Traffic will become nonexistent on 2nd Ave. and their front yards will practically become part of Reeves Park. That sounds pretty good to me.

Does anyone know if the library expansion includes any plans for addressing pedestrians crossing Starr Street? It's brutal, and at times dangerous, crossing that street to enter the Reeves Park / Library area. A four way stop with a cross walk at Second Avenue would help. The only other place to cross Starr Street somewhat safely is Fifth Avenue which has a traffic light and cross walks.

Barry Cassidy Addresses Downtown Rumors

Today's Phoenix ran an article written by Barry Cassidy in which he addressed the various rumors that have been circulating regarding the immediate futures of several local businesses. He paints a much rosier picture than some of the comments here would have you believe. From the article: --- On Monday someone came in and told me Molly Maguire's was closing.
