Main Street to be Closed for Two Weeks While Low Bridge is Raised

North Main Street, presumably between the Foundry and High Street, will be closed for two weeks while the railroad bridge that crosses it is raised. The construction is all part of the preliminary steps being taken to allow for the Gay Street Bridge to be brought down and rebuilt.

The new time line for the start of construction on the Gay Street Bridge is mid-March to mid-April. Considering that street lights need to be installed at High and Main as well as some work PECO will need to do, my guess is that the April estimate is a more accurate one.

On the topic of Construction: Does anyone know what they're building across from the new Rite Aid (aka:the OLD Eckerd)?! I don't recall anyone saying anything about it, but it looks like it has a drive-through, whatever it is!

Too bad they didn't remove the railroad bridge a little earlier. This morning there was a garbage truck that got stuck underneath.

Be aware they are NOT removing the railroad bridge just tempoarily raising it higher so the borough ladder truck from the Church St. Fire House can still get to the North side when the Gay St. Bridge is demolished. Once the new bridge is completed, the railroad bridge will be lowered to it's existing position.

Barry Cassidy Addresses Downtown Rumors

Today's Phoenix ran an article written by Barry Cassidy in which he addressed the various rumors that have been circulating regarding the immediate futures of several local businesses. He paints a much rosier picture than some of the comments here would have you believe. From the article: --- On Monday someone came in and told me Molly Maguire's was closing.
