AroundPhoenixville.com ideas for 2008

With things a bit slow as of late, I have had some time to think about what I want to do with both this blog and its sister site, BridgeAndMain.com. Here is what I have come up with, please let me know if you have any input or other ideas on how to make the site even better for '08.

  1. Make BridgeAndMain.com more of a resource for the community rather than a way to (ineffectively) market web design work. My thought is that it would become a full featured site used to promote the town. I am already using it for a number of the links you see at the top of the page. I am thinking of adding a message board area as well as finally getting to work on 'The Area'. More on this in a bit. Finally, the home page would serve as an overview of the different sections, so for those of you who liked having a place to see what events are coming up in the next week or so, this would be the place!

  2. With regards to 'The Area', over the next several weeks I am planning to add business listings to this section. Here, you will be able to get a listing of area businesses, broken down by category. You will be able to search for companies and there will be a way for users to create an account that will allow you to vote on and comment about the listings. The idea is that people will be able to use this area to learn about companies they may not have known about.

Well, that's about it in a nutshell. My hope is to start rolling these out over the next several weeks but we'll see how that goes. In the mean time, keep checking in, I am sure there will be something worthwhile to report any day now! :)

I like the changes you propose and truly appreciate your work keeping us informed about our town. Thanks! One comment, can you be sure the links back and forth between the two sites are visible. Maybe add to the right sidebars of both sites.

I have an RSS feed set up for your blogs, I check them everyday.

Keep up the great work.
Peace.

are you referring to a link between the blog and B&M? If so, I will be incorporating the same header across both sites so they appear integrated. Similar to what is in place now but perhaps with a few more buttons.

Thanks for reading!

Public meeting to discuss future of Melchiorre Park scheduled for Nov. 29th

On Thursday, November 29th, the Borough is holding a 'brainstorming session' in which plans for Melchiorre Park will be discussed with its park planning consultants. The event will be held at the High School and will begin 7pm. For those of you who do not know about Melchiorre Park (of which I am included, even though I apparently live across the street from it), it is a 23 acre park located south of High Street on the land between it and French Creek. It appears, based on the drawing on the Borough home page , to be the land that is next to Westridge Village and across the street from the new Northridge Village community. As part of the meeting, the consultants will 'provide a brief background of the project and present a pre-final master plan for the park'. Source: Phoenixville Borough Website

Local Baker Wins on Netflix Sugar Rush

Peri Anderson, owner of Brooklyn Girl Bakery , was part of a team that won the most recent episode of Sugar Rush on Netflix. I reached out to Peri to learn a little more about her bakery: I started out taking a recreational cake decorating class with my mom when I was still living in NY. I loved it and moved to PA to be with my boyfriend (now husband), where I began interning for a bakery in Chestnut Hill. Over the course of 7 years I worked my way up from intern to pastry chef until I decided to leave in 2012. I do all of my baking in our home kitchen which is licensed and insured by the Dept. of Agriculture. Initially, I wanted to focus on wedding cakes so I immediately started contacting wedding venues in the area to see if they would include me a wedding cake vendor in their packages. I currently work with over 10 venues and several caterers in the area. While wedding cakes are my main focus, I also make cakes and cookie favors for all occasions. While I don’t have a retail loca
