'A Taste of Phoenixville' scheduled for January 17th

On Thursday, January 17, 2008, the sixth annual 'A Taste of Phoenixville' will be taking place at Robert Ryan's Columbia Station. The event, which will be held from 6:30-9pm, features "edible delights from the likes of Robert Ryan's Columbia Station; Thai L'Elephant Browns Cow Ice Cream Parlor; The Columbia Hotel; Bridgeside Deli & Grille; Foresta's Country Meat Market; Molly Maguires; Ramondo’s Cheese!; Iron Hill Brewery; Aquilante's; Majolica; Twin Bays; Eliza’s Bakery; and The Sly Fox Brewhouse & Eatery."

In addition to the food, live music will be performed by local band Rhapsody and there will be a silent auction. All proceeds go to help the Good Samaritan Shelter of Phoenixville. Last year's event raised ~ $30k!

Does anyone know what's coming in across from the Giant shopping center and across from KFC/Taco Bell? Architecturally, it looks like a CVS.

Super Wawa would be nice, but it doesn't seem to resemble other Super Wawa stores. I wonder how we could find out?

It does look like another drugstore..maybe Walgreens. I'm not sure who owned the land but a Super Wawa would be great.. but it looks so close to the road.

I thought the Walgreens was going in at Vale Rio too, but I somewhat recall that not going through. That building at 23 and 113 South definitely looks like a Walgreens, but I remember reading in the news somewhere it was supposed to be a Super Wawa. I kind of remember a sign on the property saying "Future Site of Wawa," but perhaps I'm completely hallucinating. Help me out, anyone?

The building in question will be a new RiteAid and when completed, the one directly across the street will be closed. Wawa is proposing to build on the next lot but the township has not yet approved it (the next lot is not in the borough). Walgreens has been given the green light by all borough agencies to build on the diner property.

That makes sense. I knew there was some controversy because the next lot is partially in the borough and partially in E. Pikeland. Hopefully it happens!

It's the American way to abandon a perfectly fine building for a new one. What's wrong with their current location? Good god -- I was hoping it would at least be a CVS.

And where are the new restaurants here? We need some better chains. Royersford and the other local bedroom communities shouldn't be getting everything. Sheesh.

When is this alleged Walgreen's coming in? I didn't grow up in this area, but boy ... it sure takes a LOT of time for something new to come in after it's announced in Pennsylvania. Seems like I've been hearing about this stupid Walgreen's for years now. It's not like it's some amazing new addition to the community ... As someone said, don't we have enough drugstores to begin with?

Anon is correct, this will be a Rite Aid and the wawa will be on the next lot coming next year. I agree we have too many drug stores in Phx... We need a bookstore, craft store, Walmart and no more pizza joints!

We do have Armadillo and Wolfgang for bookstores. I assume you might mean a bookstore like Border's or Barnes & Noble?

I always say that if we got a mainstream shop like Gap on Bridge Street then we'd be golden. But no one is going to come in until the trash like Family Dollar is gone.

Enough with wanting a Wal-Mart in Phoenixville. I am sorry, but evertime I go into one it is T-R-A-S-H-Y (I am not talking about the people, but the store itself). There is one 15 minutes away. This town needs a Trader Joe's and other places along those lines. I am not one of those anti-Wal Mart people, but when it comes to one being in my town, I would be out there with the picket signs.

Yes, there is a Trader Joe's in Devon, but it would be nice to have one here, too. I think it would fit in with what Phoenixville is aspiring to be. I do make the trip to Devon quite often. My reason for wanting one here is not due to distance, but rather due to how crowded the store always seems to be. There are not that many TJ's in PA, so if they were to add another, why not in our little town. It wouldn't take from local businesses either.

Last I heard the Ryan's Pub thing wasn't happening? Is it back on??

i read a long time ago that a CVS and Wawa were planned for that site. It looks like a CVS. It wouldn't make sense that Rite Aid would move. They just renovated and reset the whole store. I think 'anonymous' has the wrong information. A super Wawa would be great b/c the current Wawa is too congested. Walmart would be a bad a idea. There's one 15 minutes away in either direction (Exton & Audobon). I think we need more restaurants like Olive Garden, etc. where people can enjoy a nice sit down dinner.

anon 12:29....last word was that the building where LoJo's was is going to be completely redone into a new restaurant/pub called Ryan's. The building you refer to at Bridge and Starr is what is know as the Superintendent's building from the old Phoenix Steel days. It is owned and being redone by the Demutis family. Last word was the first floor was to be a new restuarant, I believe a Baxter's, and the upper floors are to be office space, including the new offices of the Demutis group.

to anon 6:13....my information about the new RiteAid comes from borough officials. The WaWa and CVS you refer to and heard about in that area are proposed for the next two adjoining lots which abut the cement plant. If that plan has changed, the borough official source who should know is unaware of it.

Trader Joes is great....but don't waste time with that...Get a WHOLE FOODS in here ASAP.

Also who is running Molly McGuires?? I tried eating there twice and they are out of every dish and the service is horrible. I was excited when they first opened but they need to get on the ball.

YES!! KImberton Whole Foods is THE BEST!--it is right across the street from the Kimberton Inn--I can get EVERYTHING there i need--plus--the staff goes out of their way to be helpful and do special orders-LOTS of Gluten Free foods too--plus..they are not publically traded..still family owned...and much of their food, beauty products and gifts are from our LOCAL area!They also have a store in Downingtown and on Rt 422 in Douglassville

Phoenixville is terrible. How do u guys live around here? Where is the social life? What fun is it for the children? I don't see anything for the young people of the neighborhood. And then we all wonder why kids who dropped out of high school are either pregnant or dealing cocaine right next door to you. They need to bring more things to town besides drug stores, pizza shops and banks. Can we please just use our heads and take the initiative to try something new.

I grew up in this town and I havew a beautiful home a great job and 5 fantasic kids ages 2-15. And we are always busy. The library and colonial theater offer great activities for the kids and there is a great new nature preserve along the river on 113 and the perk trail is close by, not to mention bowling, mini golf and steel city has a under 21 open mic night on thursdays. First fridays are very kid friendly and last time I checked every school in the area has a loads of activities and clubs. If you can't find anything to do with your kids you just aren't looking hard enough!

I heard from a Rite Aid Employee that the old Rite Aid across the street from the new Rite Aid in Phoeniville on rounte 23 and 113 will be a Trader Jo's. But when I looked it up on the Trader Jo's website it didn't list it as a new location. So it may just be a rumor but I hope it's true.

Does anyone know that the pool & spa store across from Nudy's on Bridge street is still going to become a two 14-story condos complex with commercial units on the first floor? I heard about that a while ago, but I am not sure that they will still go for it.

101 Bridge to Open Tomorrow

Received a phone call from my sister (who happens to be moving into Phoenixville on Saturday) who said there is a sign in front of the new 101 Bridge Restaurant saying that it will be opening tomorrow(6/25). It appears they are having a private opening tonight. If anyone here attended tonight or plans to attend over the next couple of days, please write in with your thoughts on Phoenixville's newest restaurant.
