Sly Fox Gets Some National Recognition For Its Pikeland Pilsner

File this under things that may only be interesting to me (and reader S.D. who brought it to my attention), but the Sly Fox Brewery recently got a mention on epicurious.com (and subsequently picked up by msnbc.com). Specifically, its Pikeland Pilsner was rated as one of the top 5 beers you can buy in a can.

The article can be seen here.

Too hoppy.

I'm glad to see another P'ville story in the news!

The Pils is good but I prefer the Weiss. It is available in a can too.

The Pilsner isn't at all hoppy Anonymous3:07. You might be thinking of Route113 IPA which is hoppy but, to those who enjoy that taste, a nearly perfect brew.

The Pikeland Pils is getting a lot of press but all of the Sly Fox canned brews are excellent. Bottles too!

There might be a lot of activity to report on down on Bridge Street but we have a real treasure in Kimberton and Royersford– world class, excellent beer that is being noticed globally.

Yep, Sly Fox rules. I can't believe I bought beer at Iron Hill when I first moved to P'ville. Now that I am aware of Sly Fox I don't even bother with Iron Hill anymore.

Sly Fox is slowly starting to get the recognition it deserves. The head brewer, Brian O'Reilly, has been doing fantastic work for years. O'Reilly's Stout has replaced Guinness on most nitrogen taps in the tri-state area and for good reason. The Royal Weiss is a great drinking summer beer in a can and the Dunkel Lager is also great. I live right around the corner and try to get in there often for some cask ale and pub pretzels. The Fox is doing more to rep Phoenixville to the masses than most other local institutions.

Also, Anon 4:23, Don't give up on Iron Hill just yet. Their everyday menu beers may be a bit...shall we say...'light in flavor', but they brew some one-off stuff that can curl your hair...

1) Sly Fox is in Kimberton and Royersford, NOT Phoenixville.

2) Sly Fox brews blow Iron Hill out of the water and their food is much better then Mollys.

If you want a good beer in a relaxed setting go to the Fox. If you want a bunch of hassles and to deal with a bunch of 20 something yuppies, then go to Mollys. Iron Hill is OK but why drive into Phoenixville where they have the whole police force hiding out for cheap DUIs?

Bryan,

It's not that I've given up on Iron Hill. Rather I prefer the beer at Sly Fox AND it is much cheaper. I can get a growler filled at Sly Fox for $9 compared with $15 at Iron Hill. Plus Sly Fox has all the choices of pre-packaged beers in cans and bottles.

How about you don't drink and drive? Then you won't have to worry about DUI's. It's common sense.

Sly Fox had an opportunity to put the Royersford brewery in the foundry. How cool would that have been?

Sly Fox is going in the foundry building?

Sly Fox looked at the Foundry Building, but as there was no infrastructure (electric, water, sewer, heat, etc), the estimates that came back to put all that stuff in was beyond what the owners could afford.
