PJ Ryan's Open?

Reader Matt Y. wrote in this morning to say that it appears that PJ Ryan's was open for business last night. Can anyone confirm/deny?

Thanks to Matt for the tip!

I noticed a few people were in there having some drinks last night, maybe a "soft" open?

I know someone that works at their West Chester location and I was old that PJ Ryans should be open tonight...with a limited menu

We stopped in for drinks and found it was open to the public. Apparently they like to open quietly - unadvertised. The interior is beautiful - well done. Drinks were good and cold. Kitchen will open for food service next week.

Nice that it's open - how is the pricing (ie., how much is a pint of Guinness?) Thanks!

Went tonight. It was very nice inside. Several HDTV's, open air front section, two bars on the lower level. Did not see the upstairs. It was mostly a younger crowd, but there were also some older folks there (upper 30s, 40s). Beer was reasonably priced, ... about as much as Molly's. Definitely was a happening place on a Saturday night. I was very impressed and will definitely go back. I liked the open air front section, but all the seats were taken. The other two bars had a lot of space as well as lots of booths to sit at. Check it out! Hopefully it'll stay like this, but hopefully this town can support all of these bars. BTW, why was the Moon Saloon closed tonight? I see they're getting some work done on the front porch. But when driving by around 11 PM, it was all dark inside and no cars in the lot.

I was impressed with PJ Ryan's. The bar itself is gorgeous and very spacious. It is VERY roomy, with significant open space between the walls and the bar. The beer is served in chilled pint glasses. They don't serve food yet.

This is in marked contrast to Molly Maguire's, which is too cramped. Plus, the food at Molly's is TERRIBLE.

Kitchen opens on 7/10 according to a sign on the door.

I'm very happy that another locally owned restaurant/pub decided to invest $$$ in our downtown. I wish Ryan's the best of luck.

That said, while walking home last night, I couldn't help but notice the number of people smoking outside--which is great, b/c it's a non-smoking establishment. :-)

What is unsettling is the number of cigarette butts that now litter the sidewalk in front of the pub. They desperately need a Smoker's Outpost. Those butts end up in the storm sewer, which drains to our local waterways = gross!

The www.ryans-pub.com website only lists contact info for West Chester and I doubt that a staffer in W.C. will care or want to forward my concern to the owners and/or Phoenixville managers. Does anyone have an email or phone number of the PHX location?

Its not just Ryans Pub but every bar/restaurant establishment has smokers hanging outside and smoking while leaving us to deal with their nasty remains. News flash to smokers: Cig butts are NOT biodegradable! Hello, is anyone home? Before you throw your butt on the ground maybe you should swallow it instead. Not too appetizing huh? Well then please just throw it away properly.

This, by the way, is littering and should be fined. It should be a swift and hefty fine to discourage people from throwing their butts all over our streets. If the police cannot or do not have the time to enforce these codes then the business establishment should be held responsible for cleaning their mess. Its disgusting.

Put on your gloves and throw them away yourself if it bothers you so much. To ask the police to enforce that is silly and a waste of their time. The town has a lot of other stuff going on back on Gay Street that warrants their attention more than your socialist utopia of a cigarette free downtown.

Hey genius, and obvious smoker, if you didn't notice in my comment I noted that if the police don't have time to enforce such issues then the businesses should be held responsible. Your incredibly bad habit is no reason to litter our town. Oh, and if you purchased a home in a bad part of town, well then boo hoo. Roll up your own sleeves and take back your streets. Step up to the plate! Next!

To all the smokers out there that feel the need to throw your butts on the ground.......have a little bit of diginity and pride in yourselves and the establishment that you are visiting. Don't diminish the beauty of things that others build just to satisfy your disgusting habit. Take the time to throw away your butts as the sidewalk and streets are no place for them.....or better yet, put them in your pocket and throw them all over your front porch and steps

I went to Ryans on Monday night and the place looks great. Kudos to the owners on a very nice looking bar/restaurant

Actually, I'm not a smoker. Just a guy who sees someone complaining and whining about the small things in life. Ha, telling the police to patrol the front of PJ's for cigarette butt throwers. Get real, genius! If it bothers you so much, avoid it or clean it up yourself. Asking the police to patrol it is so stupid. Roll up your own sleeves! NEXT!

I'm wondering if PJ's has any "grand opening" coupons/promotions floating around? I doubt it, but I figured it couldn't hurt to check.

NEXT! ;)

One more thing... Is PJ Ryan's in P-ville really owned by the same peeps as Ryan's Pub in West Chester? Their names are not quite the same so I'm wondering if they may be completely unrelated.

Also, I found Molly's food to be pretty good (and I've had a few meals there). The only downside is that the prices are steep for the amount of food you get. And the imported beer... be prepared to spend $$$.

Rachael, Ryans is owned by Pat Ryan and his family and are the same owners as the pub in West Chester. They also own Smokey Joe's Rest/Pub in University City on Penn's campus (39th Street).

Aaah, yes. You are right! I stopped in the other night and the place looked pretty cool. The food was very good as well. Prices were reasonable.

regarding the cigarette butt debate, unfortunately it is unreasonable to expect the police to enforce the littering law for every littered butt. on the other hand it is not unreasonable for restaraunts and bars to provide a cigarette butt receptacle for their smoking patrons and for those patrons to use it. i have never understood why so many smokers think it is ok to throw their butts on the ground, out the window of the car, etc. it is littering and it is disgusting.
