Is this the mystery baseball team?

Last week I posted an article in which Barry Cassidy indicated he has had discussions with a minor league baseball team about relocating to Phoenixville. This weekend, I did a little research on Wikipedia and came up with the following as the likely team, the Batavia Muckdogs. The Muckdogs, who play in the New York-Penn League (Short-Season Single A), play in one of that league's smallest venues, holding only 2600 people or about 2000 less than the stadium being proposed for Phoenixville. The Muckdogs were a former Phillies affiliate but are now part of the St. Louis Cardinals organization.

According to reports (1, 2, 3) on thecardinalnationblog.com, the Muckdogs have been having serious financial difficulties for the past few years, making them the a likely candidate for a move.

It remains to be seen if a team will be coming to Phoenixville at all, but, if it does happen, the Muckdogs are my guess as to who it will be.

Barry also claims he's has had 4 job offers since "resigning" from Phoenixville CDC. I don't beleive anything that guy says so I'm betting the baseball team is just another one of his made up stories.

The only baseball you should plan on seeing in Phoenixville is little league, high school, and legion.

Is a baseball team something that the town wants? My family and I, relative newcomers to PXV, are thrilled about the idea and we talk about it often. I have noticed that a lot of PXV natives seem to be pretty negative when it comes to the town's revitalization. They seem to like things they were.

I so hope this happens! It would bring so much to the area and really make PXV stand out. That combined with the ferris wheel (any word on this?) would be awesome. My family would become season ticket holders!

Yes. A financially losing ball team and a nonmoving Ferris wheel would make Phoenixville stand out for sure.

All we now need is for the CDC and PAEDCO to convince five brain-dead members of the Great Eight to pay for it with taxpayer's money.

Can't we learn to burn only one-dollar bills, instead of following the two BCs, who burn fives, tens, and twenties.

I too think a baseball team would be a neat addition to town. Some people just have to be negative about everything.

To those who are opposed to a baseball stadium in downtown Phoenixville, be it publicly funded or not, your really showing your white trash, old school, ways of thinking. One, it would bring jobs to the community, two it would bring tax dollars to the town, and three, it would bring people to the downtown area on game nights that would spend at other restaurants, pubs and stores. The patethic state of downtown Phoenixville now could eventually be upgraded with decent stores if potential store owners knew that an influx of people woulf be coming into town on game nights.

Barry Cassidy Addresses Downtown Rumors

Today's Phoenix ran an article written by Barry Cassidy in which he addressed the various rumors that have been circulating regarding the immediate futures of several local businesses. He paints a much rosier picture than some of the comments here would have you believe. From the article: --- On Monday someone came in and told me Molly Maguire's was closing.
