On February 23, 2009 at 6:30 p.m., Concerned Parents of PASD will host a Cultural Celebration in honor of Black History Month at the Phoenixville High School Auditorium. This event will feature a presentation on the history of the Underground Railroad within Phoenixville, a selection of Negro Spiritual hymns by the Phoenixville Area High School Choir, and the opportunity to purchase African-American art from selected vendors.
Our keynote message, The Dream Alive Program will be delivered by Mr. Joe Rogers, Colorado’s Former Lt. Governor, who served as the youngest lieutenant governor in the country and the highest ranking African American state elected official. The Dream Alive program is a special, nationally acclaimed live commentary by Joe Rogers in dedication to the life, memory and legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr. and the leaders of the Civil Rights movement. This powerful program with an enlightening message for today is an effort to help increase the understanding of the enormous contributions that Dr. King imparted to the nation and a reminder that his wisdom and vision are timeless.
Proceeds will assist the activities of Destinations with Directions, a program that is designed to increase awareness and motivate high potential, economically disadvantage students to pursue opportunities in higher education.
