Bridge Street State Store Moving to Kimberton

The state controlled Wine and Spirits store currently located at 317 Bridge Street is in the process of being moved to Kimberton Shoppes, 550 Kimberton Road. Details are sketchy but it seems like the move could be complete as early as February 9th.

The move presumably was done so that the PLCB would have a location that taps into the Kimberton area. Considering there is a store in the Acme on Starr St, it probably makes sense from their point of view. However, with a number of the restaurants in town being BYOBs, this move would appear to be a bad thing for downtown.

According to yesterday's Phoenix article, both Senator Dinniman and Representative Paul Drucker are looking into why the move was made and why the borough apparently was not involved in the decision.

Sorry to hear it, my wife and I often stopped in the State Store either before or after dinner to purchase wine. Both Kimberton and the Acme are out of our way, we think it's a bad move.

Yes, it's a problem when the PCLB relocates a store from downtown to a strip mall accessible only by car. I went to the new store yesterday, and although it was bigger, the wine selection was not improved. I'll always go to the Collegeville w&s for the good stuff. Bridge street could use a nice food/beer to go store with premium craft beers (like the Foodery in Philly). That might help to drown everyone's sorrows.

Barry Cassidy Addresses Downtown Rumors

Today's Phoenix ran an article written by Barry Cassidy in which he addressed the various rumors that have been circulating regarding the immediate futures of several local businesses. He paints a much rosier picture than some of the comments here would have you believe. From the article: --- On Monday someone came in and told me Molly Maguire's was closing.
