Help Clean Up the North Side This Saturday

This Saturday, from 8am-12pm, you can join other volunteers in cleaning up the North Side.
Please help us clean up the North Ward during this first outing of the “Clean up the North” program. Collection bags and gloves will be provided for all interested volunteers. There is lots of parking at Veteran’s Park where all materials will be distributed. A donation of your time is all we are asking for! Help be a part of making the North Ward beautiful!

The clean up crews will start at Veteran’s Park (across from Northridge Village) and move up Mowere Rd. through High St. & S Main St. For more information, please contact Jon Ichter at ichterjr@gmail.com.

what about cleaning up the South Side? have you ever taken a look at 100 Bridge Street at the prominent corner of Bridge and Starr? the building is full of animal feces, it rains inside the building, and there are barrels of what appear to be many leftover halogenated solvent barrels (read: cancer causing solvent barrels that are a firefighter's nightmare) from a dry cleaning operation that apparently abruptly ended. there are constantly broken glass beer bottles on the sidewalk on Starr street and in the former flower boxes. i found a heroin needle on the sidewalk behind it on Prospect Street last month. weeds in the back of the building are over 5 feet tall and there is trash everywhere back there and dumped building supplies. and kids have been inside the building because windows are entirely broken out and a kid can easily go through them. whoever owns the property gets cited by the Borough and nothing changes, it just keeps getting worse. more of the roof collapsed this winter. numerous animals are going in and out of the building. at least one kid was in there, because some of the windows are broken out by objects thrown from the inside.

That property has an owner and the property is valuable -- they need to hire people or sell the property to someone who is responsible -- and it's in violation again, the Borough needs money, it should be cited again to force them to clean it up. My family was in the laundry business for over 60 years, so I know what the halogenated solvent drums near the dry cleaning equipment are all about. I'm going to write all the fire companies to let them know what they would face with a fire there. Anyone can enter the building unless they are too big -- DANGER WILL ROBINSON.

On a positive note, I'm glad to discover you here and see another person documenting Phoenixville with a camera.
