Gay Street Bridge Project Closer to Starting?

It appears that the Gay Street Bridge construction project is one step closer to beginning. According to today's Phoenix, PennDOT is close to approving a bid from the Nyleve Bridge Corporation for the new bridge. Assuming the bid is approved, construction will begin early next year (about one year later than originally planned). If all goes as planned, the new bridge will be ready by late '09 or early '10. During that time, traffic will be detoured. Although the article does not specifically mention it, it seems that cars will be detoured to Main St. while trucks will probably have to take High St. to Township Line Rd.

Do you think this means all the car traffic will be sent down High st to Main st. or will it be detoured before High st? Just wondering since I live on High St a half block east of Franklin (113) and I'm wondering if I should expect a lot more traffic over the next two years....

My guess, and its only a guess, is that folks coming from the north on 113 will be directed to stay on Dayton St (rather than making the right on Emmett) and then make a right onto High and get to Main that way. Otherwise they'd be doubling back which doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

Barry Cassidy Addresses Downtown Rumors

Today's Phoenix ran an article written by Barry Cassidy in which he addressed the various rumors that have been circulating regarding the immediate futures of several local businesses.
