Chef Andrew Deery and Sarah Johnson are the husband and wife team behind Phoenixville's innovative Majoical restaurant. The Bridge Street destination BYOB just added a festive 8-seat farmhouse table.
Majolica, one of Phoenixville's most well regarded restaurants, has unveiled a much needed new website. In addition, they have added a new Farmhouse Table option for their diners, allowing groups of 6-8 to enjoy a prix fix menu in an environment completely unique to Phoenixville.

With an innovate Autumnal menu making its debut this month; Phoenixville's Majolica is properly prepared for the festivities of fall. Every season, in fact, the original creations of acclaimed Chef Andrew Deery continue to draw visitors to the destination eatery from throughout the Delaware Valley and beyond.

This season, however, there are several exciting new changes that are creating a buzz about the Bridge Street eatery.

Majolica, named for the colorful pottery that was part of Phoenixville's past, recently launched a brand new web site developed by the award-winning advertising agency, Virtual Farm Creative, also headquartered in Phoenixville. The stylish site features colorful representations of Deery's innovative dishes as well as all of the information potential visitors to the restaurant would ever need.

"The attitude and personality of the new website exemplifies Majolica, our atmosphere and our creative cuisine," says manager Sarah Johnson. "Things are constantly changing, improving and evolving here at Majolica and now our Internet presence has that same capability."

Majolica's vibrant site also includes an application to help the manager administer reservations.A "Call Back" form posted throughout the site allows visitors to request a reservation date and time that is followed up with a return telephone call confirming or adjusting the request. Reservation makers using the web form can even request Majolica's popular tasting menu or the Farmhouse Table.

What's the Farmhouse Table? Another sensational idea from the minds of Deery and Johnson, the Farmhouse Table is borrowed from the European tradition of eating in or near the kitchen.Majolica's Farmhouse Table is a warm antique, long enough to comfortably seat eight guests.

Positioned directly across from the kitchen, Farmhouse Table guests will enjoy prix fix offerings while delighting in watching one of the region's most inventive chef's prepare and present his creative cuisine. Call me crazy, but I prefer a restaurant that gives you big servings for big prices such as Majolica's. I don't want to eat pieces of art. I want to eat food. But I do appreciate all this restaurant brings to the downtown. Nicely done website too. Butit's just not my type of restaurant.

Quality over quantity. Majolica serves the size portions Americans should eat to avoid the obesity epidemic we face.

Several Local Businesses Closing Up Shop

Over the next couple of months, three local businesses will be closing their doors.

On Saturday, February 16th, Polka Dots will be closing their store at 246 Bridge Street. The shop, a women's clothing boutique, opened nearly two and a half years ago but has recently found business slow.

Originally, (owner Susan) Randels said that the store was doing well, but that the momentum could not keep up.

"The things that sold in Paoli didn't sell in Phoenixville," she said, adding that some customers thought that the store was too expensive or the sizing did not go high enough (size 12 being the highest size sold). "We tried everything."

Randels also said that parking was an issue for many of her customers who could either not find spaces or did not feel safe parking behind the store.

Public meeting to discuss future of Melchiorre Park scheduled for Nov. 29th

On Thursday, November 29th, the Borough is holding a 'brainstorming session' in which plans for Melchiorre Park will be discussed with its park planning consultants. The event will be held at the High School and will begin 7pm.

For those of you who do not know about Melchiorre Park (of which I am included, even though I apparently live across the street from it), it is a 23 acre park located south of High Street on the land between it and French Creek. It appears, based on the drawing on the Borough home page, to be the land that is next to Westridge Village and across the street from the new Northridge Village community.

As part of the meeting, the consultants will 'provide a brief background of the project and present a pre-final master plan for the park'.

La Crêperie Café Bis Opens

Yesterday, Phoenixville's newest cafe opened. La Crêperie Café Bis, located at the corner of Bridge and Gay Streets at the base of the Gay St. Bridge, opened its doors at 11am. As you can probably guess by its name, La Crêperie features both sweet and savory crêpes which, owner Marietou Fanny says, are made with only fresh ingredients. Fanny also owns a restaurant in Center City in Philadelphia called La Crêperie Café, which has been open for nine years.

La Crêperie is open seven days a week. Hours are Monday-Friday from 11am-10pm, Saturday 11am-11pm and Sunday from 10am-7pm.
