Comments

As of today, I am going to start deleting any comment that contains name calling or other offensive content, regardless of the validity of the rest of the comment. I am pretty disappointed, although not surprised, that it has come to this but it is what it is. The purpose of this site is to keep people informed about what is going on in and around town, not to provide a place for people to vent their frustrations with life. I encourage everyone to voice their opinion and I will continue to allow anyone to post anything they want, just use a bit of decorum while doing so.

Thanks.

Jim

Jim, I don't see how me giving a little of what others give is any different than their postings. I agree with you, please delete anything that isn't informative or post worthy. But for some of these folks to just sit back and take shots and people (some I don't agree with in their opinions) for trying to make a difference is pretty offensive to me. I can see constructive arguments but some of these comments are just cheap shots with no information or constructive criticism attached and are not ever deleted because it may seem funny to some folks. So I responded in the same vein. I mostly post constructive ideas to ideas or businesses I agree with AND disagree with (but I don't take cheap shots at those working to work towards progress). By cheap shots I mean stuff like "the music stinks" or "Barry's a dope" or whatever cheap pot shots that have no place on this blog. We can hear peoples opinion on music and other things without having to call the people working on these projects cheap names. My constant theme is "at least these people are trying to make a difference" and that will continue to be my theme. We should all be applauding these folks that try and make our town a great place and try to help them with constructive ideas if we don't see eye to eye on their projects. Keep the cheap shots out!

My plan is to delete any posts that cannot make a valid argument without resorting to stuff I'd be embarrassed to hear my son say. I have no problem at all when someone chooses to express displeasure about the way something is being done in town and I do not feel that necessarily makes them a 'Negative Nancy' or that they should be told to leave town. Many of us do not have the time to spend to make a personal difference in town and thus rely on those we have elected and those whose salary we pay via taxes to do what is in the best interest of the town as a whole. If someone feels this is not being done, they certainly have the right to voice their displeasure. And if you think they are wrong for doing so, there are more constructive ways to explain why you disagree than to resort to name calling.

Having said that, I am under no illusion that those who make the decisions in our town religiously read this blog or the comments within. As such, for those who feel the need to be critical of what's going on in town, there are better ways to voice your displeasure than in the Comments. Whether it be visiting the sites of the councilmen who have blogs, emailing the councilmen from your part of town, or going to a council meeting all will provide you a way to discuss your concerns with someone who can actually affect the change you desire.

We're all in this together folks, all that I ask is that you keep in civil.

Thanks Jim. I'd also like to encourage people to sign up for an account so that we're not all anonymous. I think if you are going to have a constructive exchange of opinion it is important to be able to tell who is saying what, otherwise it leaves too much room for confusion and miscommunication.

Thanks JW. I enjoy your site but all of the back and forth was starting to turn me off. Criticism is one thing but the harsh unconstructive comments in some areas were not necessary. Keep up the good work.

i agree with the previous post regarding anonymous posts. Can something be done about this jim?

I comletely disagree about the anonymous comments. What is said, rather than who said it, should be most important.

To those opposed to the "Anonymous" postings.....they are no more anonymous than those posted by names like Mike, Glenn or Matt. Placing a name, either real or fake, doesn't do anything to legitimize an opinion. I could make up a name like Gunther and no one would know the difference. So requiring names won't work to change anything. What is needed is for people to behave like the mature, educated adults that most are. Nothing more, nothing less. It's about professional behavior not identity.

I do not plan, at this point, to require someone to be logged in before they can comment. I may in the future however. For those of you who are concerned about keeping their anonymity, forcing you to log in will not reveal your identity. You will be asked to have a Google account which can be anything you want. Obviously, if you want to remain anonymous, it would be wise to create an account name that doesn't in anyway identify you.

Again, I am not planning to go this route but if, down the road, things have not gotten any better, I may consider it.

Good work. I completely support the decision to delete immature comments. If you can't figure out a way to express yourself without calling someone a name, go somewhere else. I'll be signing up for an account right now.

I'm sorry if I wasn't clear about trying to encourage people to sign up for an account. What I meant was that it is difficult to tell of "anonymous 3:45" is the same poster as "anonymous 8:21". Currently, it is just hard to follow the thread of the conversation. I certainly don't expect Jim to make this a requirement, I just thought it couldn't hurt to encourage people to sign up.

I concur with glen's comments. I only ask that people register so that it is easier to follow who is posting what.......

John could you please put a blog about Ken B's fight in the supreme court on this site? This needs to be brought to a wider groups attention and no one is reading Kenny's blog because he's not responding anymore?

Local Non-Profit Spotlight: You Are Worth It Foundation

The You Are Worth It Foundation is a grassroots homeless and in-need outreach group from Phoenixville, PA. Around Phoenixville recently asked Chris Brickhouse for some more information about the Foundation and how you can help: Tell us a little about You Are Worth It and how it got started: We are a homeless outreach organizations serving Phoenixville, Pottstown, Norristown, Center City and Kensington in Philly and constantly expanding. We were formed in early 2018 by Dina Rowan and I came on board last June. We have roughly 15 volunteers so far and would like to expand that to expand our reach. We take donated items directly to the people. We provide them with a hot meal and new or lightly used clothing and self-care products. We have long term goals of a mobile shower center, vocational training and assisting with housing in any way possible. What kind of items do you need? We take a wide array of items - individually packaged food, canned goods, ramen, protein bars, water, s
