Molly Maguire's to open Fall 2007.

The website for Molly Maguire's Restaurant and Pub has (partially) been launched. According to it the new restaurant will open in Fall of 2007. To date, the About Us is the only page that has any real info but there is a lot of good info. Here is some of what the site says..

---
Molly Maguire's Restaurant and Pub will house an extensive first class kitchen serving American and Continental cuisine in a resplendent environment styled after the finest publican facilities in the developers homeland of Ireland.
The two upper floors of 195 Bridge Street will be converted to three condominium living units. The restaurant complex will encompass the ground floor of both 195 & 197 Bridge Street and the second and third floors of 197 Bridge St. a/k/a "The Corner"
The restaurant will seat about eighty diners on the first floor with an additional fifty seats on the second floor and another sixty seats on the third floor. The third floor will function primarily as a banquet space. The second and third floors will be available as banquet space for the many private functions the new Phoenixville is expected to attract. Both the first and second floor dining area will include an authentic old world style bar serving libations and beverages suitable for all members of your families.

If you're looking for a great new restaurant, you won't find it at Molly Maguire's, which is Phoenixville's most disappointing new dining offering.

While Molly Maguire's appears to be superb as a 'meet/meat-market' bar, if, as I was, you were looking forward to a cozy Irish restaurant with food reminiscent of the auld country, you will very likely be sorely disappointed.

While the menu features fetchingly descriptive names, the food itself is lacking. However, our meal was served at a nice, hot temperature, which is about the only plus I can give the place.

We were seated in the snug at the back of the ground floor, close to the kitchen (we could have helped the staff sort cutlery at the station behind us) and so no 'atmosphere' was visible. Plenty of noise from the bar did waft over. And the area was freezing, more indicative of a chain restaurant than a cozy pub.

Desserts were a HUGE let-down, with ordinary cakes and pies you might find at any American chain restaurant; most were not even as imaginative as many available at those eateries.

Further, when I ordered a cup of hot tea, I was presented with a cup filled to the brim with hot water.....with a Lipton tea bag next to it on the saucer in typical American fashion. This from an establishment that trades on being authentically Irish -- FOR SHAME!

I'm hoping that the new creperie set to open further down Bridge Street will provide a more positive experience. While I don't expect it to be truly French, after my less than stellar experience at Molly Maguire's, I would even happily accept insulting French waiters for a bit of authenticity!

If you like your food served frozen and not cooked all the way through... then this is the pub for you. A place like this just puts Phoenixville to shame.
