Phoenixville Blues Festival Set for September 10th

The Second Annual Phoenixville Blues Festival is set for Saturday, September 10th from 12-10pm. The free, daylong family event will benefit local Give the Gift of Music Foundation.


PHOENIXVILLE, PENNSYLVANIA – For the second year in a row, the Steel City Blues Society will present the free, daylong Phoenixville Blues Festival in Reeves Park, Phoenixville, PA on Saturday, September 10, 2011 from 12pm to 10pm.

The family-friendly day of free blues music performed by nine area bands and musicians will take place rain or shine, and will again feature many local food vendors and a Kids Sing-Along. All proceeds from donations will benefit the Give the Gift of Music Foundation, the nonprofit organization that assists underprivileged children in the Phoenixville area with access to music lessons, instruments and after school music programs.

Bands / musicians scheduled to perform at the Second Annual Phoenixville Blues Festival are Paul Michael & The Blues Recruits, The Porkroll Project, Miss Melanie & The Valley Rats, Johnny Never & The Solar Pimps, Flamin’ Harry, Sister Blue, Georgie Bonds, HotLanta-The Allman Brothers Tribute Band, and Riley Road (the latter a trio composed of local musicians under age 16).

The Steel City Blues Society is a nonprofit organization established to cultivate and preserve the tradition of blues music through community events such as the Phoenixville Blues Festival. “Our mission has expanded to include helping the youth in our community discover the wonder and joy of music by raising awareness and funds for the Give the Gift of Music Foundation,” said Blues Society Founder and President Jim DiGuiseppe.

Reeves Park is located in Chester County’s Borough of Phoenixville, named one of the “Classic Towns of Greater Philadelphia.” The park, which is surrounded by Main Street, Starr Street, 2nd Avenue and 3rd Avenue, features an amphitheater with bench and open seating, a playground area for children, and plenty of open space. Alcohol is prohibited in the park. Street parking and other parking is available.
