The third annual Blob Ball will be held at Club 212 on Friday, July 9th, beginning shortly after the 'Running Out' reenactment at the Colonial: Iron Town Productions, The Rivers Rockabilly Trio put on the favorite ball of the year, Blob Ball! The 3rd Annual Blob Ball will be held at Club 212 right around the time of the "running out" reenactment at the Colonial Theatre. Blob Ball will feature The Rivers Rockabilly Trio playing all the hits from the 1950s, dancing (swing), and contests. Participants can win prizes for Best 50s Dress (male & female), Best 50s Celebrity Impersonator, Best 50s Scary Movie Character, and Best Dancers. Last year this event sold out and we had to turn over 70 people away. This year we have much more space, but are expecting hundreds of people. Several announcements regarding the school district from the past couple of weeks. Phoenixville Area School District names new superintendent The Phoenixville Area School Board Monday night announced the nomination of Dr. Alan D. Fegley as superintendent of schools effective July 1. The board voted to hire Fegley to a five-year contract with an annual salary starting at $205,000. Board president Paul Slaninka opened Thursday evening's board meeting with the announcement. "I have some good news this evening as we have hired a new superintendent," Slaninka proclaimed. Slaninka said that Fegley comes from the Haddonfield School District in New Jersey, and said that Haddonfield is regarded as the top school district in South Jersey as well as one of the top districts in the entire state. Fegley has spent 18 years in Haddonfield as a principal, assistant superintendent and superintendent. He holds a bachelor of arts in elementary education from the University of ...

The Historical Society of the Phoenixville Area will be hosting two events over the next two months: Slide show and lecture by Ron Sloto, author of the book "The Mines and Minerals of Chester County, Pennsylvania" presents mining in our local area. June 16th: 7:00 PM at Phoenixville Federal Bank & Trust Conference Center, 564 Nutt Rd. Event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments are served. Walking Tour - The Churches of North Phoenixville July 29th: Tours start at 5:30pm, last tour is at 7:00pm. Tour starts at Holy Trinity Church , 219 Dayton Street Stroll through three of the spectacular churches on the north side of town. . The tour is free but you must have reservations. The annual AOH Irish Festival will be held over the weekend of June 4th-6th: Mont Clare, the little village out side of Phonexville, will come alive with Irish Music on June 4th , 5th and 6th on the picnic grounds of Saint Michael. This event organized by the AOH Notre Dame Division will have three days of music, vendors, food and beverages. A great line up of entertainmenttt kicks off with a Ceili on Friday night with Tom Mchugh with Jim and Kevin McGillian. On Saturday gates open at 11:00 and Oliver McElone hits the stage at 12 noon followed by the very upbeat tunes of the Bogside Rouges and Wildwoods Irish Weekends favorite Paddy's Well. Sunday morning will begin with an outdoor Mass with the Reverend Andrew McCormick and vocalist Sara Agnew. At 12 noon the music starts up again with the Misty Isle who are getting back together for this festival and to finish off the festival will be Celtic Spirit. Robin Black, author of the recently published short story collection If I Loved You, I Would Tell You This , will visit Phoenixville on Saturday, May 22nd for the second installment of the Steel City Reading Series. The event begins at 3 pm at Steel City Coffee House , and is a collaboration between Steel City and Wolfgang Books . The event will begin with an author interview conducted by Jason from Wolfgang Books after which Black will read from her work. At the conclusion of the reading there will be time for audience questions, after which Black will sign copies of her book which will be for sale at the event and are in stock now at Wolfgang Books at 20% off.
